Sabbioneta is a town and commune, in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy. A lighting design proposal was made for the following reasons:

1. To illuminate certain main roads and pedestrian areas for safety.
2. To highlight certain landmarks and public squares.
3. To highlight and illuminate waiting areas for public transport.
4. To illuminate certain remains of historical significance in order to attract tourists as a stopover between Parma and Mantua.

The laws governing light pollution in the region were taken into account while choosing the type of lighting design features and light fixtures for the design.
